Welcome to West Los Angeles- Mar Vista

West Los Angeles is most commonly referred to as West L.A.  It's located inside Los Angeles in Los Angeles County.  This part of Los Angeles sits west of La Cienega Blvd, north of the Los Angeles International Airport, south of Santa Monica, and east of the Pacific Ocean.

Westside Los Angeles is a colorful community that has created the microcosm of the region of Los Angeles.  The great economic affluence and pleasant climate have drawn people like magnets for many years.  In Westside Los Angeles, you'll find estate-style luxury homes, ranches from the 1960s, post-war bungalows and historic homes that have been well-maintained for many years.  This great mix of homes offer something for every home-buyer.  Whatever your needs are, you'll find a home that is perfect for your budget, space requirements and architectural needs.  Homes available range from small starter homes to luxury estates.  Westside Los Angeles is a community that is moving forward, with international citizenry and diversity.  People all fell welcome, no matter what background they are from.

Once incorporated as the City of Sawtelle, the land was later annexed by the City of Los Angeles; this area was the center of Westside Los Angles, which includes Purdue and the Civic Center at Santa Monica.

~ Westside Los Angeles Education ~

Westside Los Angeles is served by the Los Angeles Unified School District; there are 8 different local districts numbered 1-8 with 456 elementary schools, 86 middle schools and 92 high schools.  The district is the biggest public school system in the state; ranking second in the US.  The district serves over 720,000 students and employees over 75,000 people.  After the County government, the district is Los Angeles County's second largest employer.

The Los Angeles Unified School District serves all of Los Angeles and other cities that adjoin Southern California.  The district has its own police department, which was created in 1948.  The school cafeterias serve around 500,000 meals each day.  The West Los Angeles Baptist School and St. Sebastian School are local private schools.

~ Business and Transportation ~

Several major recreational and cultural attractions, retail and educational facilities of the Greater Los Angeles Metro area sit within Westside Los Angeles, along with a great deal of the entertainment industry.  A large business hub of the Westside is Century City, it contains entertainment law firms, talent agencies, and several major production companies.  Developments close to LAX, Beverly Hills and Santa Monica are part of the entertainment industry.  

The proposed Laurel Canyon, Beverly Hills and Pacific Coast freeways have gradually sped the traffic flow process, but because of community opposition it was put aside.  There are current proposals for widening the freeways and extend Red Line; these have been temporarily stalled and Olympic and Pico have been turned into one-way streets.

Westside Los Angeles is a vibrant community where life thrives between a dream and reality.  This city is very alluring with many trends being born here; the Internet, in-line skates, health food, short skirts and convertibles.  The city has continually re-invented itself since the beginning of time.  Everyday new horizons are reached.  

Tourism was first coined in Los Angeles and with the arrival of so many strangers, the richest ethnic mix is in Westside Los Angeles.  Cultures from all over the world join hands and rub elbows in different languages, food and fashion.  There are more museums and stage theaters here than anywhere in the US.  Some other recreation and attractions include parks, playgrounds, bars, clubs, golf courses, hiking, biking, skating, swimming, boating, fishing, great shopping and delicious restaurants.
