West Hollywood Real Estate
The City of West Hollywood is located in Los Angeles County, California. It's an incorporated city that was founded on November 1984. The area has had a rich history of community activism and community diversity. West Hollywood is largely known for being among the first to pass legislation on handguns, smoking and other noteable issues.
West Hollywood is home to the well-known Sunset Strip, European-style alfresco dining, intimate hideaways and world class boutiques. The area of West Hollywood real estate is nestled between Beverly Hills, Santa Monica Mountains and downtown Los Angeles. West Hollywood is pedestrian friendly and full of interesting people, places to see and things to do. The city is known as one of the most noted gay areas in the United States, with the village occasionally refered to as "BoysTown" and "WeHo". In the late 19th century, the first large development in what would soon become West Hollywood real estate was established and drew many working class employees of Pacific Railway. At this time, the city began to earn its reputation for being an almost unregulated, alchol-friendly spot for eccentric people. Gambling was illegal in the city of Los Angeles, but legal in the county. As a result, West Hollywood businesses were immune from the heavy-handed treatment by the LAPD. After the moviegoers lost interest in the area, the clubs, bars and restaurants on the strip continued to be an attraction for locals and people from out-of-town. In 1960s, the Sunset Strip was transformed again during the hippie movement. Young people from all over the country came to West Hollywood clubs such as the Whiskey a Go Go and the Troubadour. Distant from both downtown Los Angeles and the beaches, West Hollywood real estate is a paradise because it is ideally situated for both exploring by car or on foot. Some of West Hollywood's most famous places are busy Santa Monica Boulevard and Melrose Avenue. However, the Sunset Strip becomes a night owl's dream, once the sun sets, with some of the nation's hottest nightclubs featuring live performances by both established and emerging acts.
